Windsurfing: The Dip-Felixstowe Wind Direction: S Wind Stength: up to 20 Surf / Sea State: flat to mod Air Temperature: 17 Sea Temperature: 17 Weather: cloudy Max Speed: 26.7 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 7.19 of wh (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Got down just past 5,Paul was out with 6 so decided on the 6.6 with the
Xantos.A quick blast to the river mouth to see if there was any flat water
but on my second run across the river ran out of water and knocked the fin
clean out.So a long walk back for another fin and by the time I got back
the wind had increased making things difficult !!!! I decided to stay in
the river to wait for things to calm down but fell in by the outer shingle
bar and with the tide still going out got washed into the really rough
water in the river mouth,I decided to sit on my board and get washed
through the rough section but in the confused chop I broke the top section
of my mast !!!! I was in trouble now as there was no boats about and the
kiters/windsurfers were away upwind.I started to swim toward Bawdsey beach
and seemed to be making slow prgress when Rob spotted my while out with his
9m kite. After a couple of runs past we decided he would try to tow me in,I
held onto his harness handel and we made it to the outer shingle bar.I then
managed to walk even closer and another kiter(who had just done a mega jump
across the shingle bar) body dragged me back to safety!!! I would just like
to thank Rob and Gary for saving me and my gear !!! Another long walk back
to the van and home just before dark - I was very lucky. So in the last week
I have damaged 2 sails, broke one mast and lost a fin, can't wait to get out
tomorrow to see what damage I can do !!!!
